Bodies recovered after police confrontation led to drowning in West Virginia
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The our bodies of two males from Duck, West Virginia, who jumped into the Elk River after a confrontation with an officer had been recovered on Saturday, in accordance with West Virginia State Police.
The confrontation came about round 4 p.m. on Friday when Police Cpl. F.L. Raynor noticed the 2 males strolling close to a bridge alongside state Route 4 and thought he acknowledged certainly one of them as having an energetic warrant.
Raynor stopped them and confirmed the energetic warrant for 29-year-old Derek Lee Smith. The officer handcuffed Smith and tried to put him within the police automobile, however Smith escaped and jumped from the bridge into the river, in accordance with police.
