Nearly two-hundred-gun violence survivors and reform advocates are speaking at tonight’s National Vigil in Washington, D.C. marking the eleven-year anniversary of Sandy Hook. Fred Guttenberg, who lost his 14-year-old daughter Jaime in the Parkland massacre, says Congress must pass universal background checks now. There have been thirty-eight mass shootings this year, marking a steady rise since COVID. The Washington Post reporting there were twenty-one mass shootings in 2020, thirty-one in 2021 and thirty-six in 2022.
