Mayor Bowser to Host 2022 DC Emancipation Day Festivities

(Washington, DC) – On Saturday, April 16, at 2 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off the celebration of the a hundred and sixtieth Anniversary of DC Emancipation Day. DC Emancipation Day honors the day President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which freed over 3,100 enslaved individuals within the District of Columbia.   

The celebration kicks off at 2 pm with Mayor Bowser main the DC Emancipation Day parade. The parade route is alongside Pennsylvania Ave NW (between tenth and 14th Streets NW) and can function the DC Statehood Meals Truck Palooza on the north facet of Freedom Plaza. Former Washington Commanders participant and sports activities persona Fred Smoot, Radio and Tv persona Steph Lova, together with “Good Issues DC” co-hosts Kinosha Soden, Brit Jones, and Leiah Rocheleau will host the occasion. The live performance is free and open to the general public.

Festivities will conclude with fireworks at Freedom Plaza at 8:30 pm.
