California World War II vet invited to historic ceremony in Washington, D.C.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KERO) — A World Struggle II veteran out of San Diego, Gena Fischle, has been invited to witness a historic ceremony on the nation’s capitol.
On June 1st she is going to witness Admiral Linda Fagan change into the primary girl to guide the Coast Guard and the primary girl to guide any navy department.
Fagan is inviting different feminine “firsts” to witness the change of the command, together with Fischle. Making historical past herself, she was one of many many ladies who stepped up throughout World Struggle II. She joined the Coast Guard in 1944 and spent two and a half years within the navy.
She says she could not consider she was invited to witness such historical past.
“I believed that they had the improper quantity. They absolutely that they had another person written down.”
However, Fischle says it is an honor she’s wanting ahead to watching historical past being made. She stated she’s proud to be an American.
