Brevard veterans head to Washington DC on Space Coast Honor Flight

The journey started in the midst of the night time Saturday as 30 House Coast veterans and their guardians gathered at Wickham Park Senior Heart.

At 3 a.m., driving on two chartered buses with a police and motorbike escort, the veterans left the middle certain for Orlando Worldwide Airport.

It was the 67th House Coast Honor Flight taking veterans to the service memorials in Washington, D.C. The group included a 98-year-old World Conflict II veteran, six Korean Conflict veterans and 22 Vietnam Conflict vets. Eight of the veterans had been girls.

The group had a full day touring the Girl’s Conflict Memorial, World Conflict II Memorial, the Korean Conflict Memorial, Altering of the Guard at Arlington Cemetery Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Iwo Jima memorial and the U.S. Air Power Memorial. 

Since 2010, House Coast Honor Flight has transported 1,711 veterans.
