Woman killed when lifeguard stand fell on her at Virginia Beach Oceanfront
A 28-year-old homeless woman was killed when a lifeguard stand fell on her at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront early Saturday morning, police said.
Police responded to the area of the beach near 21st Street at 3:30 a.m. following a report that a lifeguard stand had fallen on someone.
Investigators believe Chelsea Moles, who does not have a fixed address, was sleeping on top of the lifeguard stand when another person tied a hammock to it, causing it to tip over and land on Moles, according to Jude Brenya, a spokesperson for Virginia Beach police.
Moles was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death is considered accidental and no charges are pending, police said.
