Virginia Tech News: Transfer portal offers, Heisman Trophy & more
In this edition of Virginia Tech News, a Hokie in the transfer portal gets more offers and a Hokies’ future basketball opponent suffers a tough loss and more.
Derrick Canteen gets more offers in the transfer portal
Derrick Canteen is one of six Virginia Tech players who have entered the transfer portal for football, but like some of the others, he’s committed to playing in the Bowl game against Tulane on Dec. 27.
Canteen received an offer from the University of Cincinnati on Dec. 8, then got one from Oregon State on Dec. 8. Saturday, he announced on X that he received an offer from Indiana in the Big Ten, who is now coached by former James Madison coach Curt Cignetti.
Whoever gets Canteen will be getting a good defensive player and someone who will step onto their campus and make a big impact in 2024.
Next Virginia Tech men’s hoop opponent loses to Colgate
One of the tougher non-conference opponents for the Hokies men’s basketball team is going to be Vermont next Saturday at Cassell Coliseum and they have had a whirlwind week, to say the least. Last Saturday, they incredibly beat Yale at home with six points in the six 3.5 seconds, then Saturday, they shot the ball very well, 50% from the field, and lost a non-conference game to Colgate, 77-71.
Virginia Tech guard Sean Pedulla missed the Hokies win over Valparaiso Saturday with a foot injury against Louisville last Sunday and was in a walking boot, but coach Mike Young said he hopes to have him next weekend. They are going to need him against a Catamounts team that is going to make things difficult at home.
LSU’s Jayden Daniels wins the Heisman Trophy
LSU quarterback won the 2023 Heisman Trophy.
Daniels beat out Michael Penix, Jr. of Washington, Bo Nix of Oregon, and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison, Jr. to win the award.
