Virginia Organizing to rally in Richmond for better housing conditions
WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – Virginia Organizing is heading to Richmond for a Rally for better housing conditions, and the Waynesboro Chapter will be in attendance.
Andrea Jackson with the Waynesboro Chapter said there are at least 10 bills on tenet’s rights that Virginia Organizing wanted to focus on.
“We are focusing on housing, environmental issues that are really co-connected a lot of tenets rights issues, as well as focusing on utilities,” said Jackson.
Jackson said this will be an all-day event, where they will speak with local legislators, have a rally, and hear different people speak. Virginia Organizing will march from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to the General Assembly Building on February 6.
”Waynesboro has been doing the housing campaign for about two years but this is the first time we are going to general assembly to talk about housing issues,” said Jackson.
Jackson said she will be heading to Richmond to speak in front of a subcommittee on a specific bill that addresses mold in rental properties.
“Mold regulation is huge issue in Virginia, there are laws about it but there is no agency that enforces the rules,” said Jackson. “A lot of people do not have resources to go speak about these issues in Richmond, so it is important to be a voice for them.”
