Virginia dairy recalls cheese products


CULLEN, Va. (WDBJ) – A Virginia dairy is recalling several cheese products because of a lack of proper pasteurization, according to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DACS).

Country Corner Dairy, LLC, of Cullen, Virginia, has issued a recall of all cheese and skyr (similar to yogurt) products sold between August 2, 2023 and January 24, 2024, with a batch/date stamp of 080223 through 012424. The company says “the lack of proper pasteurization could have allowed dangerous pathogens to survive in the product.”

Recalled products include Cuajada Cheese; Blueberry Flavored Skyr; Grape Flavored Skyr; Pineapple Flavored Skyr; Cherry Flavored Skyr; Raspberry Flavored Skyr; Strawberry Flavored Skyr; Vanilla Flavored Skyr; White Cheddar Cheese; Yellow Cheddar Cheese; White Colby Cheese; Yellow Colby Cheese; Sizzling Colby Cheese; Monterey Jack Cheese; Marble Jack Cheese; Pepper Jack Cheese; Garlic and Chives Cheddar Cheese; Garlic and Dill Cheddar Cheese; and Smoked Cheddar Cheese.

DACS says these products were packed in approximately 8-ounce, 2.5-pound, 5-pound and 40-pound units, and were distributed at: Peacock Hill Dairy in Richmond County; Miller’s in Farmville; Pine View Grocery in Farmville; Spring Hollow Grocery in Buckingham County; Country Corner Dairy in Charlotte County; Cedar Grove Auction in Charlotte County; Hollering Hill Auction in Halifax County; and Central Virginia Produce Auction in Buckingham County.

Anyone who bought Country Corner Dairy cheeses or skyr with the above batch/date stamp may return the products to the place of purchase for a product exchange or refund, according to DACS.

DACS says no illnesses have been reported so far in connection with this recall, but consumers should not consume these products, even if the product does not look or smell spoiled.

Fatal motorcycle-pickup collision shuts northbound S. Virginia Street Thursday evening


A fatal collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Thursday evening has claimed a life and prompted a significant road closure in South Reno.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to reports of the crash at approximately 5:29 p.m. on February 26. The incident occurred on northbound South Virginia Street, just north of Damonte Ranch Parkway.

According to the Nevada State Police, the rider of the motorcycle, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The driver of the pickup truck remained on-site, though no further details regarding other injuries or the cause of the crash have been released. Northbound South Virginia Street: Completely shut down from Damonte Ranch Parkway to Bishop Manogue Drive.

Southbound South Virginia Street: Open, but expect “rubbernecking” delays as drivers pass the emergency vehicles. Officials expect the northbound lanes to remain closed until at least 11:30 p.m. as the NHP Highway Patrol Division completes their investigation.
