Brent Pry said there's a “scary'' piece about Virginia Tech's matchup with Tulane in the Military Bowl
Since the matchup with Tulane in the Military Bowl was announced on Dec. 3 against Virginia Tech, things have changed for the Green Wave. One day after losing to SMU, 26-14, in the AAC Championship game, Tulane’s coaching staff and roster had some turnover.
They lost their head coach Willie Fritz who left to go to the University of Houston and some of their top players have either entered the transfer portal or opted-out of the game in Annapolis, Maryland Wednesday afternoon. Like the Hokies, some of the Green Wave who have entered the transfer portal have committed to playing in the game.
Generally, when you have almost a month to prepare for your opponent, you are going to have a good idea as to what they do, their personnel, and what you can do to be successful against them. That is not the case for Virginia Tech and head coach Brent Pry.
With the roster and coaching staff turnover, it is still up in the air just what the Hokies are going to see from Tulane. Saturday, Pry said that is the “scary” part about preparing for the game.
“That’s a little bit of a scary piece of it, the unknown,” Pry said. “As coaches you want to know everything you can, study, study, study. In the end, it’s about how we play and what we do and we’re preparing for everything. They are an 11-win team and I don’t know that you change a whole lot after you have 11 wins. It’s your next man-up mentality and go be the team that you can because they’re a really good football team.”
It is about Virginia Tech and how they play, however, after losing their coach, losing the conference championship game, and losing some key players, it makes you wonder how much they’ll be up for the game. A win for the Hokies sets them up for 2024 after the last month that they have had in securing key pieces in the transfer portal and recruiting after getting a lot of their players to commit to return.
