2 missing, 10 rescued after kayakers go over Virginia dam

Two females are lacking after a gaggle of 12 kayakers turned stranded after which went over Bosher’s Dam in Richmond, Virginia, on Monday afternoon.

Ten victims had been rescued, together with 9 rescued by authorities and one self-rescue, after the incident on the James River, based on Richmond Fireplace Division Assistant Chief Jeffrey Segal.

The incident occurred round 3 p.m. and rescue boats entered the water at 3:22 p.m., Segal stated. The dam has a 12-foot drop.

The rescue operation to seek for the lacking females ceased Monday evening as a result of it was getting darkish and would restart Tuesday at 7 a.m., Segal stated.

It is unclear if all of the victims knew one another, based on the assistant chief, and in the event that they had been all bodily contained in the kayaks on the time of the emergency.

It is also unknown the place the 2 lacking females went lacking, Segal stated. Their final identified location was the place many of the victims had been rescued.

The operation continues to be categorised as a rescue and never a restoration, Segal added.
