Texas DPS: unsafe U-turn causes collision on US-190 near Kempner

KEMPNER, Texas (KWTX) – The Texas Division of Public Security troopers are investigating a crash blamed on an unsafe U-turn.

DPS Troopers responded to the collision involving two autos at round 10 a.m. on Oct. 7 on US 190, 5 miles west of Kempner.

A 1994 Ford Ranger pick-up operated by a 76-year-old man was touring westbound on the shoulder of the roadway and was decelerating.

A 1984 Kenworth dump truck operated by a 29-year-old man was approaching the Ford from behind, travelling westbound within the outdoors lane.

In accordance with DPS, the motive force of the Ford made an unsafe U-turn and turned straight into the trail of the Kenworth.

The driving force of the Kenworth took an evasive motion to keep away from a collision, however nonetheless crashed into the Ford.

The driving force of the Ford was severely injured and flown to Seaton Wilco by Careflight air ambulance.

The driving force of the dump truck was not injured.

The crash stays underneath investigation.
