Texas A&M TE Fernando Garza enters the transfer portal

In a time were so many transfer portal entries seem to make little sense stritcly from a football perspective, it’s almost refreshing to see a transfer that fits the more traditional mold, i.e., wanting more playing time. That appears to be the case for Texas A&M TE Fernando Garza, who entered the portal on Wednesday.

Garza was a three-star recruit in Texas A&M’s 2021 class who appeared to have the size for the position, but never rose up the depth chart. He played almost exclusively on special teams, never recorded a reception in his three years on campus, and despite the transfer of TE Jake Johnson, Garza was likely at best fourth on the depth chart behind Donovan Green, Theo Ohrstrom and Jaden Platt (all players who are younger than him).

Garza has two years of eligibility remaining.
