Strange looking mammatus clouds form over Central Texas Saturday
AUSTIN (KXAN) – KXAN acquired a number of pictures from viewers of mammatus clouds Saturday afternoon and early night by means of our ReportIt characteristic.
Mammatus clouds seem like lumps or pouches on the underside of a cloud, normally a thunderstorm’s anvil. They kind when chilly air sinks into dry air and types these little pockets or pouches, normally when a thunderstorm is late in improvement or beginning to collapse.
Whereas most of Central Texas didn’t have storms on Saturday, one extreme storm fashioned over Lampasas and drifted southwest into San Saba County. A separate non-severe storm popped up in Burnet County.
