Musk taps Tesla’s China chief to run Texas gigafactory – Bloomberg News
Dec 8 (Reuters) – Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) chief Elon Musk has roped in longtime government and the corporate’s president in China, Tom Zhu, to assist run the carmaker’s new plant in Austin, Texas, Bloomberg Information reported late on Wednesday.
Zhu, who joined Tesla in 2014 and is heading Tesla’s Asia Pacific operations, is in Austin this week. He has introduced a few of his engineering group from China with him to help in overseeing the ramp-up of Giga Texas, the report stated, citing folks accustomed to the matter.
Giga Texas, which opened earlier this 12 months, makes the Mannequin Y and can produce Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck.
It isn’t clear whether or not Zhu will retain his Asia duties or for a way lengthy he will probably be in Austin, Bloomberg added.
