DB Muhammad, No. 38 overall, chooses Texas
Cornerback Malik Muhammad had a relentless presence in his ear amplifying the virtues of the course Texas is heading in. Muhammad paid heed to that presence — Arch Manning — and added to Steve Sarkisian’s recruiting class by committing to the Longhorns on Wednesday.
“We had been speaking once we each had our official visits on the College of Texas. After which he texted me nearly each day, telling me, ‘Come to Texas. You are subsequent. You are subsequent.’ Each day,” Muhammad stated, referring to Manning.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Muhammad, No. 38 within the 2023 ESPN 300, attends South Oak Cliff Excessive College in Dallas. As a junior, Muhammad had 70 tackles, 10 move break ups and three interceptions — returning two for touchdowns — in 2021.
He selected Texas over Alabama and Texas A&M.
“I am the most effective participant within the nation,” Muhammad stated. “(Texas’ coaches) instructed me I may very well be the alpha male on the defensive aspect and so they suppose I can carry a whole lot of recruits to the crew. In order that’s a giant choice for me. I have been profitable in Texas my entire life. In order that was the largest half.”
Muhammad is ESPN’s sixth-ranked cornerback within the class of 2023. Texas has the third-ranked class, in response to ESPN, and has 10 ESPN 300 recruits. Muhammad is the highest-ranked defensive recruit in its class. Muhammad, security Derek Williams (No. 76) and cornerback Jamel Johnson (No. 110) spotlight the secondary additions co-defensive coordinators Jeff Choate and Pete Kwaitkowski will work with.
“I really feel like as soon as they’ve anyone who can shut down each side of the sector like me, I really feel like they’re going to make their protection round me,” Muhammad stated. “We could be extra aggressive up entrance and within the secondary. “They really feel like I can change their entire protection. They really feel like I could be the face of the protection.”
