Middle Tennessee law enforcement urge drivers to stay home during winter storm
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) – Law enforcement is warning drivers that the roads are already very slick and multiple wrecks have been reported.
In Williamson County, the Williamson County Fire and Rescue responded to a rollover wreck. Officials said luckily there were no injuries.
Officials urge drivers to stay home if possible.
AAA has given the following tips on driving in the snow:
- Stay home – Only go out if necessary. Even if you can drive well in bad weather, AAA said it’s better to avoid taking risks by venturing out.
- Drive slowly – Adjust your speed down to account for lower traction on snow or ice
- Accelerate and decelerate slowly – Apply the gas slowly to regain traction and avoid skids. Don’t get moving in a hurry. Take time to slow down for the stop light.
- Increase your following distance – Keep your distance if other people are out on the road. Don’t follow other cars too closely.
- Don’t stop if you can avoid it – If you can slow down enough to keep rolling until a traffic light changes, do it.
- Don’t power up hills – Applying extra gas on snow covered hills will just make your wheels spin. Try to get a little inertia before you reach the hill and let the inertia carry you to the top. When you reach the top, proceed downhill slowly
- Don’t stop going up a hill – There’s nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road.
