South Carolina (1-2, 0-1 SEC) hosts Mississippi State (2-1, 0-1) in its second straight SEC matchup of the 2023 college football season after coming up short in a 24-14 loss to No. 1 Georgia (despite handing the Bulldogs their largest halftime deficit in nearly three years).
It was a tale of two halves for Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler, who after halftime completed just 6 of his 24 passing attempts and threw two interceptions. He was nearly perfect in the first half, hitting on 16 of his 18 attempts. He must put up a more consistent effort against Mississippi State as the Bulldogs come off a 41-14 beatdown by No. 13 LSU.
Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers similarly struggled in the passing game against the Tigers, throwing for just 103 yards as his offensive line gave up four sacks. A big night for South Carolina’s defensive line could give the Gamecocks a needed boost in Week 4.
