Video: Athlete Zy’marion Lang commits to South Carolina
Last week at SEC Media Days, Shane Beamer tried to tell fans that when it comes to recruiting this month, you need to have patience. Well, July wasn’t over quite yet and on Sunday South Carolina proved just that.
6-foot-3 Florida native Zy’marion Lang has committed to the Gamecocks. Currently listed as a wide receiver by On3, South Carolina has talked to Lang about playing defensive back as well. But according to Gamecock Central recruiting insider Wes Mitchell, it appears Lang will begin his career at wide out. This comes despite USC defensive backs coach Torrian Gray being highly involved in his recruitment. Gray along with wide receiver coach Just Stepp and Beamer.

Ranked as the 92nd wide out for the class of 2024 by On3, Lang chooses South Carolina over schools including Pitt, Kansas State, USF and Texas A&M. He becomes the first prospect to publicly commit to the Gamecocks since three-star linebacker David Bucey did so on June 26. He becomes the second wide receiver to commit to the Gamecocks class of 2024, joining four-star wide out Mazeo Bennett and the 14th overall commitment.
Considered a consensus three-star, Lang is one of those players who could see his grade elevated in time. I say that because he is ranked as a four star by Rivals and as we’ve seen in recent weeks with Gamecock three-star commits, some of them have seen their grades bumped up. The point is, don’t get so caught up on how many stars as of today.

Last season at Palmetto High School Lang hauled in 28 catches for 470 yards and five touchdowns. This season, he’ll be playing at Cardinal Mooney.
Now there’s a handful of South Carolina targets who are expected to make their commitments in the coming days and weeks. Some of those players include four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor (Aug. 4), four-star ATH Jalewis Solomon (Aug. 5), and four-star RB Daniel Hill (Aug. 23). Five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart is also expected to announce his commitment in what could come as early as August as well. But, nothing is set in stone.
