South Carolina Basketball: Gamecock star wins an honor bigger than basketball

South Carolina basketball wing Bree Hall is one of the most improved players in the entire country this season. The junior wing has developed into a big-time shooter and a plus-defender who has started every game of the season for the country’s best team and has been put on the watch list for the Cheryl Miller Award.

For the season, Hall is averaging 10 points and 3 rebounds while shooting better than 46% from the field and over 42% from behind the 3-point arc. As the Gamecocks pursue the third national championship in South Carolina basketball history, head coach Dawn Staley will be counting on Hall to continue showing the high level of play she has delivered all year.

This week, though, it was announced that Hall was being honored for something even bigger than the game of basketball. The SEC revealed its women’s basketball SEC Community Service Team, and Bree Hall was the Gamecocks’ representative.

It was a well-deserved honor for the Dayton, Ohio native as she has worked with a number of good causes over the past several years as she seeks to impact her new community in Columbia, South Carolina. Hall has worked with veterans at the VA hospital, mentored children at the Boys and Girls Club, and helped sponsor a Christmas shopping spree for kids. She is also the vice chair of the women’s basketball group at the SEC Basketball Leadership Council.

Hall is joined on the SEC Community Service Team by Aaliyah Nye (Alabama Crimson Tide), Maryam Dauda (Arkansas Razorbacks), Carsen McFadden (Auburn Tigers), Zippy Broughton (Florida Gators), De’Mauri Flournoy (Georgia Bulldogs), Emma King (Kentucky Wildcats), Fla’jae Johnson (LSU Tigers), Snudda Collins (Ole Miss Rebels), Mjracle Sheppard (Mississippi State Bulldogs), Averi Kroenke (Missouri Tigers), Tess Darby (Tennessee Volunteers), Jada Malone (Texas A&M Aggies), and Bella LaChance (Vanderbilt Commodores).
