Recapping Action
Georgia traveled to Baton Rouge for its final SEC series of the season last weekend. Georgia claimed the series opener 3-1 over the Tigers. Sara Mosley slugged her 16th home run of the season to put the Dogs ahead in the third inning. Saturday’s game was postponed due to rain. LSU bounced back in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader, edging the Bulldogs 2-1 to knot the series. The Tigers used five combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings in the finale to run rule the Bulldogs 9-1 in six innings, taking the series.

Georgia will await the NCAA Softball Tournament selection show on Sunday, May 14. The selection special will air on ESPN2 at 7 p.m., ET. The Bulldogs are expected to make the 21-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s history. Georgia’s all-time NCAA Tournament record is 74-41.

Walters Named SEC Community Service Team
Graduate pitcher Shelby Walters was named to the 2023 SEC Softball Community Service Team. Walters, a native of Cohutta, Georgia, is a graduate student currently pursuing a Masters in Kinesiology – Exercise Physiology. In the community, Walters is active in Save a Lab, the Miracle League, Special Olympics at UGA, among others.
Saving the Day
Currently with seven saves on the season, Shelby Walters has tied the single-season saves record at Georgia. The record of seven was set by Kasi Carroll in 2005. Carroll (2004-07) also holds the career record of 10. In one season, Walters’ is already top five at Georgia. Madison Kerpics’ and Walters’ seven career saves each rank fourth.
Now Appearing on Home Run Top 10’s
Jayda Kearney and Sara Mosley each homered in the series finale at Florida on April 16. After that game, they each appeared on top 10 home runs lists at Georgia: Kearney in single-season home runs (18) and Mosley on career home runs (44). Sydney Kuma’s 42 career home runs also now appears on Georgia’s career home runs top 10. Kearney’s 39 is close behind.
The Dogs Can Swing It
Georgia is currently slugging its way to the top of the SEC, leading the league with a .580 team slugging percentage (ranks fourth nationally). Additionally, UGA leads the Conference with 80 home runs and 15 triples and 770 total bases.
