Candidate filing period opens in South Carolina for 2024 general election
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The South Carolina Election Commission announced the candidate filing period for the 2024 general election began at noon on March 16 and ends noon on April 1.
SEC said any candidate seeking a political party’s nomination for any office during the general election is required to file during this period.
Those seeking to run for federal, statewide and multi-county offices must file at the South Carolina Election Commission’s office in Columbia. Potential candidates for State Senate and State House of Representatives must file at the commission office or a county elections office in their county of residence. Those who intend to run in county-level elections must file at their county elections office.

“One of the first steps to running for office is filing to appear on the ballot,” said Howie Knapp, executive director of the commission. “Candidate filing is crucial to the election process, and we want to make sure that all candidates have the information they need to be ready for June and November.”
