FLORENCE – The Pee Dee will get South Carolina’s first two Biscuitville locations as the Southern biscuit company expands to the state.
The Florence location opened in April and a Hartsville location will open soon.
“We have really exceeded expectations,” Charles Miller, regional vice president for Biscuitville, said of the company’s opening in Florence. “And (we’re) really excited to move forward in Florence specifically, but also in other markets in South Carolina.”
Florence is Biscuitville’s first foray into the Palmetto State, but Miller said the company is planning to expand to a number of other South Carolina cities as well. They will include Columbia, Irmo, Greer, Duncan and Indian Land.
While opening dates haven’t been set, Hartsville will be the next South Carolina town where residents will have a chance to eat at Biscuitville. Miller said the ribbon-cutting will be very soon.
Biscuitville, based in Greensboro, N.C., and founded in 1966, serves a biscuit-forward menu, dominated by biscuit sandwiches and other breakfast foods. The company has around 70 locations across North Carolina and Virginia, according to a press release.
Miller said Biscuitville brands itself as a place to get fresh Southern biscuits made with locally sourced ingredients. The company’s trademark is “the Biscuit Window,” a window through which customers can watch staff members make the biscuits.
While Biscuitville hasn’t opened locations in South Carolina before this year, it has sourced some of its sweets from Greenville, a spokesperson for the company said.
“We really just differentiate ourselves from other folks by having that fresh, Southern, local ingredients, scratch-made biscuits every 15 minutes,” Miller said.
South Carolina’s proximity to Biscuitville’s other locations made it a good choice for the company’s continued expansion, Miller said. Biscuitville aims to open around 10 new restaurants each year.
The Florence location has hired roughly 50 employees, with wages starting out at $10. Miller said the other Biscuitville locations in South Carolina can expect similar levels of employment.
The Florence location is at 2180 W. Lucas Street and is open for breakfast and lunch.
