- A 60-year-old man was bitten by a shark while swimming in waist-deep water off Hilton Head. The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. at the beach in Sea Pines. Shore Beach Service personnel promptly responded, removing the man from the ocean, and paramedics took him to Hilton Head Hospital for treatment. The specific details about the man’s condition, the type of shark involved, and his identity have not been disclosed yet. As a precautionary measure, a section of the beach was temporarily closed after the incident. (Fox News)
- An 18-year-old teen from nearby Hardeeville is in stable condition after being shot once in the parking lot of Hilton Head Gardens Thursday night. The incident was reported shortly before midnight, prompting emergency services to be called. The victim sought help at a nearby apartment before being taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation and encourages anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry for a possible reward while remaining anonymous. - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office revealed the harrowing details of a surprise alligator attack that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman on Hilton Head Island in early July. The incident occurred around 9:27 a.m. when deputies responded to an animal incident but were informed en route that Holly Jenkins had been killed by an alligator. Holly’s son, John, discovered her disappearance around 7:00 a.m., and he and his father, Justin, went to search for her. Tragically, they found her being attacked by an alligator in a canal near the golf course. Despite their efforts, the alligator was killed only after officials arrived at the scene. This was the second fatal alligator attack in Beaufort County in less than a year. (ABC News)
