Ryan Walters and Oklahoma Ethics Commission agree to settlement
OKLAHOMA CITY (KSWO) – A settlement has been reached in the ethics investigation into Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters.
The Oklahoma Ethics Commission launched an investigation into Walters after it determined he may have violated ethics rules by supporting President Trump through an official state social media account.
But newly filed court documents show both the Oklahoma Ethics Commission (OEC) and Walters have entered into a settlement agreement to end the matter.
As part of the settlement, Walters will remove his elected title from his personal social media account and keep his personal and professional online presences separate.
In addition, Walters will pay a $4,000 civil penalty to the State, as well as $1,000 for the OEC’s attorneys fees.
This settlement, however, is not an admission of guilt on Walters’ part and court documents state there is no evidence he knowingly intended to violate any ethics rule.
