Brito, a sophomore in her first season with the Sooners after transferring from Oregon, performed a serious position Thursday and all through the season.

Her double to left gave Oklahoma a 3-2 lead within the fifth. She closed the underside of the inning by charging to make a diving catch in left discipline.

Pacifica softball coach Tony Arduino stated after the sport that he was thrilled to see Brito shine on the nationwide stage.

“To be trustworthy, it’s what I anticipated her to do in school,” he stated. “The quantity of effort and time she put into her craft was one thing particular. I’ve been teaching highschool sports activities — baseball and softball — for 15-plus years and have by no means seen somebody compete like her every day.

“She needed to win at all the things she did and proved that tonight. So glad for her, couldn’t occur to a greater particular person.”

Brito went 2 for 4 with two doubles within the finale and completed the season hitting .368 with 14 dwelling runs and 46 RBIs.

She earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors as a shortstop at Oregon in 2021.

Brito’s highschool profession started at Foothill as a freshman.

At Pacifica, she rose the ranks as a sophomore and a few of her junior season underneath the late coach Mark Campbell, who died in March 2019.

Brito starred at shortstop for the Mariners however performed just a few video games at middle discipline close to the tip of the COVID-shortened 2020 season after Lillyanna Martinez was injured.

“She got here to my classroom one morning and she or he stated she would transfer to middle discipline to assist the workforce,” Arduino recalled. “I did it reluctantly and she or he was superior on the market for 2 or three video games earlier than the season ended.”

Oklahoma’s reserves featured former county standouts Sophia Nugent (Los Alamitos) and Hannah Coor (Esperanza). Catcher Mary Iakopo (Los Alamitos) was a key participant for Texas.
