Oklahoma vs Texas in WCWS: Full list of conference matchups for college softball national championship

With Oklahoma softball moving onto the Women’s College World Series final after its dramatic walk-off win over Florida, it sets up a rivalry matchup for all the marbles.

The No. 2 Sooners will take on No. 1 Texas in a Red River Rivalry series for the national championship, just weeks before both programs officially become members of the SEC on July 1.

The two best teams in college softball all season will both look to make history in the series, as well. Oklahoma is looking to become the first team ever to win four consecutive national championships in softball, while Texas hopes to earn its first championship in program history.

It also won’t be the first time two teams from the same conference met for the championship, either. It marks a long, storied history of teams from the same conference competing for the ultimate prize in the sport.

With that, here’s the full list of WCWS matchups between two programs from the same conference, which added another in 2024:

Oklahoma-Texas WCWS matchup in 2022

Oklahoma and Texas’ 2024 national championship matchup is a rematch of sorts from the 2022 series, when the Sooners defeated the Longhorns in two games 16-1 and 10-5.

However, the Sooners, even at 57-7, aren’t quite as dominant as they were two years ago, losing the regular-season series to Texas this year in Austin, Texas. Oklahoma did, however, best the Longhorns in the Big 12 championship, winning 5-1 in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma softball record vs Texas 2024

Here’s Oklahoma’s game-by-game finishes against Texas this season:

  • April 5: Oklahoma 5, Texas 2
  • April 6: Texas 2, Oklahoma 1
  • April 7: Texas 2, Oklahoma 1
  • May 11 (Big 12 Championship): Oklahoma 5, Texas 1

With that, Oklahoma and Texas enter the Women’s College World Series tied at 2-2 in head-to-head meetings this year, meaning whoever wins the national championship will also claim the Red River Rivalry for the 2024 college softball season.

Oklahoma Sooners add transfer portal offensive lineman to the roster

Oklahoma Sooners add transfer portal offensive lineman to the roster

The Oklahoma Sooners made an under-the-radar transfer portal addition on Wednesday, bringing back a player who spent two seasons in Norman before transferring out last year.

Former Central Oklahoma offensive lineman Kenneth Wermy will be returning to play for OU out of the portal. Wermy played for the Sooners in 2023 and 2024 before spending 2025 at the NCAA Division II level with the Bronchos. He’ll add depth to an offensive line group that is in need of it after recent portal departures.

Wemry is a local product from Cache, Oklahoma, and he stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 315 pounds. The Sooners have been busy adding big names in the transfer market, but with a week and a half left until the portal closes, the focus may soon turn to retention and building back depth on the roster.

Oklahoma had a busy portal day on Wednesday, adding Wermy and former Michigan linebacker Cole Sullivan. However, Oklahoma also lost three players to the portal, in linebacker Sammy Omosigho, defensive back Jaydan Hardy, and wide receiver Zion Ragins.

Oklahoma bill aims to ban obscene materials in public school libraries

A local lawmaker is introducing a bill to prohibit obscene materials in Oklahoma public school libraries.

Rep. Chris Banning, R-Bixby, filed legislation this week, House Bill 2978, that would update state law and prohibit the acquisition of materials that meet Oklahoma’s legal definition of obscenity.

The bill removes references to subjective community standards and relies on established statute, according to Banning.

“This legislation provides a straightforward statewide rule that helps ensure school libraries stay within the definition of education,” Banning said. “According to Black’s Law Dictionary, education is defined as providing proper moral, intellectual and physical instruction.”
