UNC Wrestling: Aidan Schlett commits to North Carolina
The UNC wrestling program has secured a commitment from Aidan Schlett, one of the best wrestlers New Jersey has to offer.
On his Instagram account, New Jersey wrestler Aidan Schlett announced that he has committed to the UNC wrestling program.

Schlett, a rising senior, is a vital member of the Saint Joseph Regional High School wrestling program. The Green Knights are coming off arguably the program’s best overall season, as they finished as the No. 1 team in the state of New Jersey.
The future Tar Heel played a big role in St. Joe’s success, as his takedown of Bergen Catholic state finalist (and now Penn State freshman) AJ Fricchione in sudden victory helped the Green Knights secure their first victory over the powerhouse Crusaders in 25 years.
Saint Joe’s had what was called “Murderer’s Row” within their regular lineup, as Rocco Dellagata (rising high school junior and Division-I prospect), Michael Dellagata (Cornell freshman and reigning state champion), and Jimmy Mullen (Virginia Tech freshman and reigning state champion) were a matchup nightmare from the 170-pound weight class and beyond.
Schlett and the Green Knights reached new heights last season as they capped off a record-breaking season with a state championship. Individually, Schlett finished sixth overall in the state individual finals in the 215-pound division.
Preparing for his senior season, Schlett recently competed in the Fargo Wrestling event, bringing home another sixth-place finish.
Although the Green Knights may not have the firepower they did a season ago, expectations are still very high for them as they look to defend their title. Schlett is expected to be a key component as he looks to finish off his high school career in style before making his way to Chapel Hill next fall.
This is a great addition to the UNC wrestling program, as they’ve added a versatile wrestler with a winning pedigree who could be a valuable asset in the upper-weight classes during his time with the program.
