UNC Football: Grant Mills commits to North Carolina

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have earned a commitment from one of the top special teams players in the Class of 2024.

Although it may not attract the same attention as other positions in the sport of college football, having a strong special teams unit is crucial for a program’s success.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program understand this, as they are always making an effort to boost this unit. Back on June 12, the Tar Heels extended a scholarship offer to five-star long snapper Grant Mills, and just over a month later, the Concord, North Carolina native decided he wants to stay close to home.

On social media, Mills confirmed his commitment to the UNC football program. The three-time All-American selection is ranked by Rubio Long Snapping as the No. 7 overall long snapper in the Class of 2024.

If you want some insight as to how good Mills is at his position, check out this player review from the Vegas XLII Event back in May:

Grant Mills, yet again, was dominant at the Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XLII Event on May 6-7th. He, yet again, made it to the finals and, at this point, is shocking when he simply doesn’t win the camp. Form is gorgeous and he might be the most consistent Long Snapper in the country. He is similar to a pitching machine in baseball…over and over and over and over, it is the same thing. He has two offers and will, undoubtedly, have more by the end of the summer. He is a machine. The more size he puts on, the more dominant he will be at the next level.

Long snappers don’t get much recognition, as most of their spotlight occurs when something bad happens. However, it is a vital aspect of the special teams unit to have a long snapper that has the ability to be automatic, as it is a tremendous boost to an entire program when punts and field goal attempts can be completed successfully and without issue.
