North Carolina ranks 6th in ‘Best State to Drive in’ study
NORTH CAROLINA (WBTV/QC LIFE) – North Carolina ranked No. 6 in WalletHub’s 2024 ‘Best & Worst States to Drive in’ study.
The study’s results were released on Monday, Jan. 15, and determined the most driver-friendly states in the country.
To rank each state, the research compared 31 key metrics ranging from average gas prices to rush-hour traffic congestion and road quality.
- 23rd – Share of Rush-Hour Traffic Congestion
- 18th – Car Theft Rate
- 7th – Auto-Repair Shops per Capita
- 19th – Avg. Gas Prices
- 5th – Auto-Maintenance Costs
- 18th – Road Quality
- 10th – Car Dealerships per Capita
N.C. ranked 6 for cost of ownership and maintenance, 32 for traffic and infrastructure, 24 for safety rank, and 10 for vehicle access and maintenance.
Based on each critical metric score, N.C. landed a total score of 62.34, sandwiched between No. 5, Alabama, and No. 7, Ohio.
Additionally, South Carolina ranked at No. 30, with an overall score of 56.11.
S.C. ranked 9 for cost of ownership and maintenance, 27 for traffic and infrastructure, 46 for safety rank, and 26 for vehicle access and maintenance.
