North Carolina football trending to land talented in-state receiver

North Carolina missed out on landing a pair of in-state talents out of Providence Day School four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis and three-star wide receiver Channing Goodwin. Both Davis and Goodwin ended up choosing to go north and commit to Michigan.

However, the Tar Heels haven’t stopped recruiting their teammate in three-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp. That persistence may work out in the end as Shipp is a day away from announcing his college decision.

Following recent industry updates, North Carolina has now pulled ahead of Michigan a day before Shipp’s decision day. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), the Tar Heels sit with a 61% chance to land Shipp’s pledge while Michigan sits in a distant second at 33.1%.

Both schools hosted Shipp in June for official visits along with NC State. He visited Michigan first on June 2 before traveling to NC State a week later and Chapel Hill on June 23.

The 6-foot-2, 183-pound wide out is the No. 412 overall prospect and No. 70 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 13 player in North Carolina.

Shipp currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $36K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

How North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class currently stands

Mack Brown and the Tar Heels finished the 2023 recruiting cycle with the No. 30 class in the country. They’re currently a spot ahead of where they last cycle.

North Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class currently has 23 commitments as it ranks as the No. 30 class in the country and No. 6 in the ACC.

A pledge from Shipp would make him the sixth in-state player to commit to the Tar Heels. Their current in-state pledges are three-star EDGE Curtis Simpson, three-star interior offensive lineman Jani Norwood, three-star wide receiver Keenan Jackson, three-star interior offensive lineman Desmond Jackson and three-star cornerback Khalil Conley.
