North Carolina Diver Unearths Record Breaking Prehistoric Shark Tooth

Hunter Mooney, of Carolina Seaside Fossils not too long ago found an eye fixed, or slightly jaw, opening shark’s tooth off the coast of North Carolina.

Mooney, an avid waterman, was scuba diving about 40 miles offshore on the notorious “Meg Ledge” – a dive spot identified for its abundance of prehistoric sharks’ tooth when he discovered the tooth.

Hunter tells Riff Outdoor:

“I used to be on the market, you understand, doin my factor lookin’ for tooth, and never discovering an entire lot. I used to be getting near the top of the dive once I noticed this large ol define within the sand.

I used my hand to fan off the highest layer of sand and simply began yelling into my regulator… this lovely tooth was staring up at me… the factor was large!”

Mooney ended his dive and introduced the tooth to the floor. The official measurement got here in at 6.9 inches, setting the North Carolina State document for the most important shark tooth ever discovered within the state.

It’s stated that every inch of tooth equates to roughly 10 toes of shark.

So, do the maths: a 7-inch tooth, is believed to come back from a… drumroll please…. 70-foot shark.

That’s like… 2 faculty buses… or 4 giraffes… or… the peak of the White Home.

It’s exhausting to fathom, however fortunately for the beachgoers on the market, Megalodon sharks are now not with us. But their fossils stay to be discovered, studied, and appreciated.
