NC law enforcement staying alert after Trump rally shooting

The events of the shooting on Saturday at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania has authorities in North Carolina on high alert.

Trump was shot in the ear on Saturday at his campaign rally. The gunman killed one rally attendee and critically injured two more before U.S. Secret Service agents killed him.

WRAL News spoke with State Capitol Police officers if they’re planning to increase protections over the next few days.

A spokesperson said they will continue monitoring events.

A few months ago, multiple state law enforcement agencies, including the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, trained on how to keep high-profile people safe when they visit the Triangle.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office provided WRAL News with the following statement.

“While we do not have information on credible threats locally, we are prepared to safeguard any incidents in our area. Our office is in close communication with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners.”
