Man found shot dead in car after Raleigh crash near NC State campus

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Raleigh police officers are investigating after a man was found shot dead after a crash on Western Boulevard near Varsity Drive.

Officers responded at 5:21 p.m. to a report of a crash. Police found a man in one vehicle who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. There are no suspects in custody, police said.

There was no threat to the public, police said. The investigation was close to the N.C. State campus and the road was closed for hours.

Co-workers identified the victim as one of their managers from Cookout on Western Boulevard.

Reyna Espino said she had worked with the victim for over a year.

“He was a hard-working man. He did everything,” Espino said. “He did his best for everybody at work. Got a great attitude.”

She came down to the investigation scene with her co-workers where they left flowers and cards and lit candles for the victim.

Raleigh Police have closed part of Western Boulevard for a death investigation Monday evening.

Police have not officially identified the victim.

NC State Campus Police assisted RPD with traffic control and asked students to be on alert.

The roadway reopened shortly before 10 p.m.
