Former North Carolina state senator, Elon College alumnus dies

Former North Carolina Sen. and Elon Faculty alumnus Jerry Tillman died Feb. 4 at age 82. The longtime senator died in Greensboro from pure causes, in response to the Related Press. Tillman performed baseball for what’s now Elon College, incomes the title of honorable-mention All-American whereas enjoying for the Combating Christians. 

Tillman served within the North Carolina State Senate from 2002 till June of 2020, representing Randolph and Guilford counties. He served as chair of the Senate Finance Committee, chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Training and Majority Whip. He was additionally the precinct chairman for the Randolph County Republican get together for 23 years.

Previous to his profession in politics, Tillman was an educator, spending 35 years in roles starting from assistant superintendent to teaching. He was a local of Siler Metropolis, North Carolina, and obtained his bachelor’s diploma from then Elon Faculty and a Masters in Faculty Administration from College of North Carolina-Greensboro.

Tillman was preceded in loss of life by his spouse, Marian, and is survived by three youngsters and several other grandchildren. His funeral can be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 on the Archdale Pals Assembly.
