Bill to legalize sports betting in North Carolina progresses to the Senate
CHARLOTTE — A bill to legalize sports betting statewide in North Carolina progressed to the Senate on Wednesday.
House Bill 347, sponsored by Rep. Jason Saine, will allow for the state to license 10-12 online and brick-and-mortar sportsbook operations.
BetCarolina said operator revenue would be taxed at 18%, and funds would be distributed to problem gambling programming, youth sports programming, and other services.
The bill went to the Senate with a vote of 64-45 vote on March 29 but sat in the chamber until May 24.
It will go to the Finance Committee and the Rules and Operations Committee before it can move to the Senate floor.
It is unclear when these progressions will take place, according to BetCarolina.
