Superstar Pride has been arrested and charged with murder in Mississippi.
Cadarrius Pride, better known by his stage name of “Superstar Pride,” was taken into custody by police on Wednesday after a man was shot and killed in Sardis. The victim was later identified as 40-year-old Marcus Wheatley.
According to a release from the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, officers received a call for service at a residence on Highway 25 North around 12:30 p.m. Upon arriving, they found Wheatley deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
During the investigation, Pride was quickly identified as the main suspect. The “No Knife No Gun” rapper surrendered to authorities shortly thereafter.
“Sheriff Shane Phelps, along with PCSO Deputies, began a fugitive investigation to attempt to locate Pride and take him into custody,” a portion of the release reads. “During the course of the investigation, Chief Deputy Reginald Lantern was contacted by family members and notified that Pride wanted to surrender. At 4:47 p.m., Pride surrendered to Chief Lantern and was transported to the Panola County Detention Center.”
Pride, who’s just 21 years old, rose to fame in Oct. 2022 with the release of “Painting Pictures,” which eventually peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He followed up his first hit with singles, “Fullcourtpressure” and “Free Wop,” and has since reached nearly 3.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
