Mother and son killed in Holmes Co. shootout
HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – A mom and son have been killed and a 3rd particular person was transported to the hospital after a shootout in Durant Friday afternoon.
Holmes County Sheriff Willie March stated all three have been in a automotive that wrecked on Freeway 12 after being hit with a sprig of gunfire at about 4 p.m.
The mom and son have been probably struck unintentionally, March stated.
“These shootings occur on a regular basis now,” stated a Durant resident who stated she witnessed the incident and didn’t want to be recognized.
A dramatic surge in gun violence, she stated, started in mid-2022 and has not let up.
“We’re combating for our lives up right here,” she stated.
Each Holmes Sheriff and Durant Police personnel responded to the scene and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is amassing data, March stated.
