Mississippi selects new superintendent of education

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Robert Taylor, a 30-year educator and deputy state superintendent for the North Carolina Division of Public Instruction, has been chosen to function Mississippi’s new state superintendent of schooling.

A Mississippi native and College of Southern Mississippi graduate, Taylor will succeed Kim Benton, who has served as interim state superintendent of schooling since July. He’ll lead the Mississippi Division of Schooling beginning in late January 2023. In a information launch Monday, a spokesperson for the division stated the Mississippi State Board of Schooling chosen Taylor after conducting a nationwide search.

“Dr. Taylor possesses all of the qualities the Board looked for the subsequent state superintendent of schooling. Taylor began as a instructor’s assistant in Mississippi and went to work for North Carolina public colleges as a instructor, principal, district superintendent and state schooling chief.

Benton turned interim superintendent after Carey Wright retired on June 30. She beforehand served because the chief educational officer and deputy superintendent. In current months, Benton helped transition the Tunica County College District again to native management after years of state conservatorship.
