LSU basketball score vs. Mississippi Valley State: Live updates from the Tigers’ season opener
BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball begins its 2023-24 campaign on Monday, as the Tigers host Mississippi Valley State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (7 p.m., SEC Network+).
The Tigers enter their second season under coach Matt McMahon with a new-look roster that includes seven transfers and two freshmen, as they try to bounce back from a difficult 14-19 overall record and 2-16 record in conference play a season ago.
Not among those new contributors, at least for now, is Tulane transfer guard Jalen Cook. Cook’s second-time transfer waiver was denied by the NCAA on Wednesday, meaning that he will not be eligible to play for LSU this season.
LSU has since sent “additional information” to the NCAA for it to reconsider its ruling. But for now, the Tigers will have to play this season without their starting point guard.
