How to watch as LSU baseball hosts Mississippi State for final home weekend series

The Tigers responded well in the midweek to their first series loss of the year against Auburn last weekend, run-ruling Northwestern State.

Now, Mississippi State (24-23, 6-18 SEC) comes to town as the struggling Bulldogs look to be the next team to knock off now-No. 2 LSU. It’s been a struggle for the Bulldogs this season, and though they have a pair of series wins, they’ve been swept the last two weekends by Tennessee and Arkansas.

The Tigers (38-10, 16-7 SEC) enter this series half a game behind the Razorbacks in the SEC West as well as behind Vanderbilt in the overall standings. LSU will hope to hand MSU its third-straight sweep, which would go a long way toward helping this team’s chances in the hunt for the SEC regular season title.

Here’s what you need to know to follow the weekend series, which begins on Friday night.

LSU: No. 2 in all college baseball polls, No. 3 in NCAA RPI

MSU: Unranked

LSU trails the all-time series, though it’s relatively tight at 208-194-1 in the Bulldogs’ favor. Recently, however, the Tigers have dominated the series. They’ve won 13 of the last 15 regular-season series and swept MSU in Starkville last season.

“Mississippi State’s last two series have been against Tennessee and Arkansas, two of the best teams in the country,” Johnson said in a release. “When I evaluate them, I see quality talent. I see an SEC team on offense that has a lot of speed. They have a good balance of left and right-handed hitters, and they have some power. On the mound, they have some really talented pitchers. It’s a tough league – the only reason Mississippi State is where they are in the standings is because they’re in the SEC. They would be near the top of any other league in the country.”
