7 killed in crashes across Mississippi over Christmas holidays

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Seven folks had been killed in crashes through the Mississippi Freeway Patrol’s Christmas Vacation Journey Enforcement Interval, which ran from Friday, December 23, by means of Monday, December 26.

The lethal crashes occurred in Jones, Sunflower, Jefferson, Attala, Clark, Marion and Pearl River Counties.

The deadly crash in Jefferson County occurred on December 24 and claimed the lifetime of Dennis Crump, 38, of Hazlehurst, when his 2007 Mitsubishi pickup left the highway and hit a tree.

The crash in Attala County occurred on Christmas Day. In keeping with MHP, John Gwatlney, 23, of Kosciusko, left the highway and overturned.

Additionally through the vacation interval, the Mississippi Freeway Patrol issued 5,294 citations, made 80 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 160 crashes leading to 36 accidents.
