F1 News: Toto Wolff Addresses Upcoming Miami Upgrades After China Difficulties – ‘Hopefully Worth a Bit’

Following a challenging Grand Prix in China for Mercedes, Toto Wolff spoke candidly about the team’s performance issues and the anticipated upgrades for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. Wolff remains hopeful that these changes will significantly enhance the car’s competitiveness.

The Chinese Grand Prix left much to be desired from the perspective of Mercedes, as both their cars struggled to keep pace with the leading pack, culminating in a modest ninth-place finish for Lewis Hamilton and a sixth-place finish for teammate George Russell. Team Principal Toto Wolff provided insights into the difficulties faced and the steps being taken to address these concerns ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

Acknowledging the team’s less-than-ideal performance, Wolff expressed concerns over the pace and efficiency of the Mercedes cars in Shanghai to Sky Sports F1;

“I think considering where we put the cars altogether, drivers and team, was not a good position for today. Not good enough overall.

“Lacking pace. We have got to dig deep. We have got something coming for Miami that looks like a good step, let’s see where that brings us out.”

He admitted that the team had taken some aggressive experimental approaches with Hamilton’s setup, which unfortunately did not pay off.

“It’s not an OK car. We can see what the mistakes are on the car. We wanted to go a bit more aggressive to see if it was something so different we needed to do on that car and you can see Lewis today took it on him, that was maybe a step too far.”

This experimental strategy left Hamilton battling at the back for most of the race, with the 7-time world champion himself remarking on the lack of performance throughout the race.

Despite these setbacks, there’s optimism within the team, spurred by the forthcoming upgrades set to be introduced at the Miami Grand Prix. Asked about how much this could bring to the Brackley squad, Toto offered a little information:

“Let’s see. Hopefully a bit.”

Hamilton, reflecting on his surge up the pack, looks forward to the changes coming when the F1 circuit hits the United States.

“I’m grateful to get into the points. I didn’t expect a lot more this weekend.

“Hopefully we have a step forward coming at the next race. Until then, we will be back at the factory next week and try and position the car better for Miami and have a better weekend.”

MIAMI — Miami-Dade Fire Rescue announced on Friday that the U.S. State Department “activated” the department’s search-and-rescue team to work in Venezuela after the two earthquakes.

The fire rescue personnel with the Urban Search and Rescue, or USAR, and Florida Task Force 1, or FLTF1, which includes 80 specialists, will support search and rescue operations.

“We know that many people in our community have family, friends, and loved ones in Venezuela, which makes this mission especially meaningful to us,” a MDFR spokesperson wrote in a statement. “We deploy with a single purpose: to provide hope and assist those who have been affected during this difficult time.”

The FLTF1 “Type I” team also includes six canine teams and experts in 19 areas, including command and control, technical search, structural evaluation and stabilization, planning and technical information, advanced medical care, hazardous materials mitigation, tactical communications, logistics, safety, and technical rescue.

The State Department had already deployed two urban search and rescue teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax, Virginia, that had worked together in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa.

2 detained after police pursuit ends with bailout, neighborhood search in NW Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A police pursuit that began in Broward County ended with a bailout, a tense neighborhood search and at least two detained in a Northwest Miami-Dade residential area.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and others with tactical gear that read “Sheriff Gang Task Force” descended on a home near Northwest 99th Street and Second Avenue on Thursday night.

According to MDSO, a suspect bailed out of a corvette that had been involved in a pursuit.

The subject, who deputies said does not live in the home, was taken into custody after officers surrounded the property.

According to BSO, deputies were conducting a proactive investigation when the subject’s vehicle drove south into Miami-Dade. BSO’s avaition unit responded and a be on the lookout was issued. The vehicle was located in the Northwest Miami-Dade area.

As the subject was being led away in handcuffs, 7News asked him what he was running from and what he had done. The subject did not respond.

Just steps away from where he was detained, a Corvette sat in the middle of the roadway with its doors open. Deputies said they were pursuing that vehicle before it was parked and bailed from.

7News cameras captured deputies recovering a backpack from the scene as investigators continued searching the vehicle well into the night.

Soon after, a second person was placed in handcuffs and into an MDSO cruiser.

No official arrests have been made as of late Thursday night, according to BSO.

Men used fake credentials to enter Brazil vs. Scotland match at Miami Stadium, deputies say

Two men accused of using fake credentials during the Brazil and Scotland World Cup match at Miami Stadium were arrested, deputies said.

Stanthony Ballard, 43, and Kareem Thomas, 38, are both facing several charges, including uttering forged instruments and trespassing a sport/entertainment event and soliciting.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, deputies responded to a request to check for fraudulent credentials at section 135 at Miami Stadium, which was filled with approximately 65,000 fans in attendance.

When deputies arrived at the section, four witnesses stated that they had been led into the stadium by the two men in exchange for $1,000 each.

When the two men were asked to show their credentials, they showed fake credentials to a different sporting event, deputies said.

Court records show this isn’t Thomas’ first run-in with the law at a major South Florida event. He has an open case for allegedly selling Ultra Music Festival tickets back in 2017.

Both men were two of the seven ejections at Miami Stadium on Wednesday. They were taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Thomas’ bond was set to $3,500, and Ballard’s bond was set to $5,000.

NBC6 has reached out to FIFA and the stadium for comment.
