A new interactive mural on display in Miami just in time for Juneteenth

MIAMI – The Historic Ward Rooming Home in Overtown homes among the most valuable Black artwork from native artists like Marvin weeks to historic items that embody the Black tradition.

Chris Norwood, the founding father of Hampton Artwork Lovers has been curating the area on the Ward Rooming Home for years. He spoke in regards to the artwork and energy of the Black expertise.

“Visible artwork throughout our time of enslavement didn’t permit us the chance to create visible artwork. The one issues we now have that we all know that proceed that custom are issues like quilt making and structure. We constructed so many issues and did it in a creative method,” he stated.

On Friday, Hampton Artwork Lovers along with Miami MoCAAD hosted a mural unveiling on the facet of the Thomas Constructing, named after Lawson Thomas, the primary Black decide within the South post-reconstruction.

Anthony Mojo Reed created the mural. His work can be on the late Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse Heart, positioned at 1021 NW 2nd Ave. in Miami.

“Life has been an illustration of artwork with regards to Black people so Juneteenth has been a celebration of freedom, a celebration of liberty,” Norwood stated. “To us, it’s simply as essential as July 4th.”
