Maryland pounds Long Island 23-2 in regional opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Ian Petrutz went 3-for-5 with a house run and 5 RBIs, Nick Lorusso and Troy Schreffler drove in 4 apiece and No. 15 general seed Maryland steamrolled Lengthy Island 23-2 within the Faculty Park Regional on Friday.

Maryland (46-12) advances to play Connecticut on Saturday. Lengthy Island (37-20) will play an elimination recreation in opposition to Wake Forest earlier Saturday.
