Maryland District Court permits publication of court proceedings

BALTIMORE — The Maryland District Courtroom issued a ruling Friday declaring that recording, broadcasting, and distributing lawfully obtained audio or video recordings is now permitted in Maryland courtrooms.

The Memorandum opinion states, “The State of Maryland stays free to ban stay broadcasting from the courtroom, and to control the discharge of shielded information and video recordings beneath the Maryland Guidelines. Nonetheless, the State might not sanction the press for broadcasting “lawfully obtained, truthful info” that the State itself has disclosed to the general public.”

Additionally known as the “Broadcast Ban”, this statue beforehand prohibited the usage of “Tv, radio, and photographic or recording gear” to “report or broadcast any legal matter, that’s held in trial courtroom or earlier than a grand jury.”
