Man killed, officer injured in shooting in alleyway near Sand Bar in downtown Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – A reportedly armed man and a police officer have been shot as part of an incident in downtown Shreveport early Sunday morning (July 5).
According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers first responded to a call about a fight around 4:15 a.m. in the alleyway behind the Sand Bar on N Spring Street.
As officers tried to break up the fight, shots were exchanged between a man who was reportedly involved in the fight and officers.
SPD says the man involved pulled out a gun and shot an officer. Then, they say the officer returned fire and shot the man multiple times.
The man was taken to the hospital, and later pronounced dead. The officer is said to have non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing, and has been taken over by Louisiana State Police.
