Kentucky spending huge on grade crossing enhancements.

Again in 2019, RT&S reported on Kentucky funding grade crossing enhancements throughout the state. Now, simply over three years later, Kentucky’s governor has introduced one other spherical of funding for grade crossing enchancment across the state.
This new spherical of funding, introduced by Gov. Andy Beshear, offers greater than $2.2 million in grants to enhance railroad crossings in 11 Kentucky counties.
“Railroads are a vital a part of Kentucky’s transportation system, reaching each nook of the commonwealth,” Gov. Beshear stated. “The tasks being achieved with the assistance of those grants will lead to larger security for the tens of millions of automobiles that cross railroad tracks and extra environment friendly operation of the crossings themselves.”
The tasks embody upgrading crossing alerts and lights, new pavement on approaches to crossings, alternative of approaches and, in some instances, full crossing replacements
4 firms submitted the chosen grant functions: Paducah and Louisville Railway; RJ Corman Railroad Group; Kentucky Railway Museum; and Norfolk Southern. A Kentucky Transportation Cupboard (KYTC) choice committee screened the functions, which then had been accepted by KYTC Secretary Jim Grey
A complete of 17 tasks had been funded and are grouped beneath by grant recipient. Every railroad firm is offering a minimal 20% match.
Here’s a itemizing of the tasks to be funded:
Paducah and Louisville (10 tasks):
- Jefferson County – Cane Run Highway, full crossing alternative, $103,921; Camp Floor Highway/KY 2051, improve alerts/lights, $171,894; Paralee Highway, improve alerts/lights, $189,727.
- Marshall County – Industrial Parkway/KY 1523, full crossing alternative, $166,220.
- McCracken County – Husband Highway, improve alerts/lights, $200,328.
- Muhlenberg County – KY 70, full crossing alternative, $85,918; Nelson Highway/KY 1379, full crossing alternative and sign improve, $284,240.
- Caldwell County – Matt Wealthy Highway, improve alerts/lights, $189,727; Varmint Hint Highway, improve alerts/lights, $189,727.
- Hardin County – Hayden Faculty Highway, full crossing alternative, $110,724.
RJ Corman (3 tasks):
- Bullitt County – Joyful Hole Highway, full crossing alternative, $92,561.
- Fayette County – Bryan Station Highway, crossing pavement alternative, $21,320.
- Nelson County – Mobley Mill Highway, full crossing alternative, $74,133.
Kentucky Railway Museum (3 tasks):
- Nelson County – U.S. 31E/Principal Avenue, full crossing alternative, $126,671; Nelsonville Highway, full crossing alternative, $72,592.
- LaRue County – Lyons Station Highway, full crossing alternative, $72,592.
Norfolk Southern (1 mission):
- Boone County – U.S. 25/Dixie Freeway, crossing strategy alternative, $62,692.
