Kentucky beats out North Carolina and Washington for Reece Potter
The Kentucky Wildcats added Reece Potter to their roster Monday afternoon. The 7-foot-1 Lexington native played two seasons at Miami (OH) after a standout high school career at Lexington Catholic.
Mark Pope and the coaching staff felt the need to add to the roster after one scholarship became available due to Travis Perry’s departure, and they managed to find a big man who could develop enough to give them some spot minutes next season while providing UK with an extra practice body.
According to KSR’s Matt Jones, Kentucky beat out the Washington Huskies and North Carolina Tar Heels for the RedHawks transfer. The Huskies reportedly made a big offer for Potter. Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels prioritized Potter in his recruitment process, but the Lexington native grew up a big Wildcats fan and ultimately chose Kentucky.
With the addition of Potter, the Wildcats will have a lot of depth in their frontcourt. In a deep rotation, Potter will join Brandon Garrison, Jayden Quaintance, Malachi Moreno, Andrija Jelavic, and Mouhamed Dioubate. Potter will ultimately have to work for playing time this upcoming season, but he could play more minutes to start the season due to Quaintance’s injury.
