Ex-Kentucky justice secretary charged with first-degree rape
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A former Kentucky Justice Cupboard secretary and lawmaker was arrested Monday and charged with rape.
Former state Rep. John Tilley, who oversaw Kentucky’s state jail system below former Gov. Matt Bevin, is accused of getting intercourse at a Lexington resort with a lady who couldn’t consent because of her degree of intoxication, CBS affiliate WKYT of Lexington reported, citing the arrest affidavit.
Tilley, 53, was being held on the Lexington-Fayette County jail.
Tilley’s lawyer, Steve Schroering, instructed information shops that his shopper is harmless and turned himself in.
“John Tilley maintains his innocence of the legal prices and has cooperated with the investigation,” Schroering stated. “He respects the judicial course of and has no additional remark right now.”
Tilley served as Justice and Public Security Cupboard secretary from December 2015 via 2019, overseeing Kentucky State Police, the Division of Corrections and different businesses.
